A lot of peeps weren't at practice last night, which is understandable. So please read this:

If you haven’t done so already email Jacuzzi if you would like to attend the tournament this weekend in irvine. If you had been counting on getting to play in Santa Cruz and San Diego, consider this. Santa Cruz is a competitive tournament, and only the people that give the team the best chance to win will play. It is very possible that only about 14 people will get significant playing time that weekend. A lot of people may not play at all if they go. For San Diego we have been restricted to only taking 1 team. So if 20-30 people want to go then it will be very hard to get more than 3-4 points per game even when everyone plays equal amount of points.
So if you are free this weekend, this could be your last chance to get significant playing time before the end of the quarter. Email jake at jjuszak@calpoly.edu.
Tuesday night very may well be the last practice of the week. You may want to show up.

Here is a list of things that you probably will want with you for a tourney weekend: (the first 6 are pretty mandatory)

cleats
2-8 pairs of socks
shorts
white shirt
dark shirt (preferably the whole team will bring the same color)
frisbee
sunscreen
deodorant
warm clothes if cold or bad weather is expected
water bottle
wallet with school ID and drivers license
cell phone and phone charger
street clothes to wear after games are over
towel for showering
sleeping bag
toothbrush
sports drinks and powerbars
trash bags are handy to put your stuff in if it rains
plastic bags are good for putting smelly clothes in

homework to do in the car, during byes or saturday night (just a warning, i always bring homework, and never do any of it because i'm having too much fun. So you are probably better off trying to get it done before or after the tournament)

I'm sure i'm forgetting some other important things. If you see something that may be missing or have a question about something you should or shouldn't bring leave a comment.

And lastly, remember to pack light. You will likely be traveling with 3 or 4 other guys tightly crammed into tiny fuel efficient vehicles. if you pack for a weekend like my little sister, then you probably won't have many friends in the car.

Sandwich Day

We will be sending two teams to Sandwich Day, a tournament down in UCLA on October 23-24. The tournament is a ton of fun, with bagels and water supplied all day Saturday, and sandwiches provided on Sunday.

Get your paperwork in now. Like right now. If you can drive (we definitely need as many of you to drive as possible) then you have to fill out the driver forms as well. The links to every form you need to fill out is a couple blog posts down. And the online membership stuff for everyone will need to be filled out as soon as that's up and running. Not sure when that will be, but it's very soon, if not now. If all of this is not done by this Friday, you cannot go to this tournament. So get it done now. Like... right now...

Video Clip from Northwest Regional Finals

So i stumbled across this video clip from last weekend's NW club finals featuring Seattle Sockeye and San Francisco Revolver. These two teams finished 1,2 at the Ultimate World Championships in Prague this past summer.

One thing that i notice when i watch this game, is how many more throws go side to side across the field than do attempts down the field. To these teams, maintaining possession is more important than risking a throw that might result in a turnover. Plus, working it back and forth provides opportunities to break the mark and advance the disc up the break side.

So if you've got some time to spare, i recommend watching this. There are some incredible layout Ds, huge skies, and plenty of unstoppable throws.

Here are the forms that need to be completed in order to be a driver for the team. If you have a car please sign up as a driver. Realistically you will not have to drive to every tournament. Just do it in the event that we need it. In addition to these forms, you will need to make an additional copy of your drivers license.

Welcome back! Just wanted to let you all know that the first vet practice will be on Monday, September 20th from 7-10 on field 5 of the lower sports complex. Hope you all are as excited as I am for the upcoming season. Our practice schedule will be Monday and Tuesday nights from 7-10 pm on field 5, Friday afternoons from 4-7 pm on field 5, and Saturday mornings from 10-1 on field 4. The first rookie practice will be the Monday of the second week of the quarter. Looking forward to seeing you all out there.

I'm keeping track of my ultimate record this summer. I'm keeping track of all club tournaments, league seasons, and recreational tourneys such as beach, hat, potlatch (mixed, open, or womens). Pick-up doesn't count in my book. I'll bet a frisbee that i have more wins than you by the time Cal Poly starts school again in september. (any tournaments after classes begin, i'd consider that the postseason. there may be another competition for that when the time comes.) Do i have any takers? Leave your comments. Warm-Ups

Hey guys I know we're coming up on the end of the year and we still don't have anything to show for it but I have been working behind the scenes to get some warm-ups for the year. I know we initially said they would not cost anybody anything but based on some unfortunate circumstances this simply is not an option anymore. I am days away from making the order but here's the update on everything. I have two different options that we can go with. One is a little bit cheaper but besides the screen printing that I have done is just solid black and looks a little bit plain and in my opinion isn't quite as comfortable. The other option is obviously a little bit more expensive but has some white trim around the shoulders which in my opinion looks pretty sick and I think would make our warm-ups look that much nicer and I'd say they are more comfortable as well.

So basically what I'm asking you guys is for your opinion on which I should order because in the end its going to end up costing all of us. I still have to figure out the final quotes from the vendor that I'm going through but I'm thinking it will probably cost about $20 a person for the cheaper warm-ups and about $30 if we went with the more expensive and more comfortable ones. I would really like to get this order in ASAP because we can still possibly have them by the end of finals week but I really need to know your preferences on the matter immediately. Still showing up to practice really shows your commitment to the team and willingness to get better so it is really appreciated. If you can't make it cuz you're swamped with work or have midterms to study for, that's completely understandable. But if you can't make it cuz you're dickin' around, smokin', or drinkin' or something, that really sucks for the people that are still working hard to get better for next year. I know this season is over, but next season starts now. Come out, work on your fundamentals, get better, and have fun. It is about the time to sign up for Wildflower. For those who don't know, Wildflower is a triathlon that cal poly clubs volunteer for. Last year there were approximately 700 students volunteering. It is a fantastic bonding experience that you won't regret, I promise.
